A SALUTE TO THE FLAG

For weeks after Sept. 11, stores could not keep up with the demand for the U.S. flag.   Do you remember that picture of the fireman raising the flag at Ground Zero?   Memorial Day is coming, and this is a good time to consider what the U.S.

represent?

Red represents courage.  We’ve seen the courage of those who protect our nation, but most of us could use some more courage.  Too few of us are willing to face evil directly.  Our nation was founded by those willing to courageously sacrifice of themselves.  On Memorial Day, we remember those who courageously sacrificed their own lives for our nation.  Pray for courage.

White stands for purity.  There is very little purity left in the U.S., where right and wrong are relative.   Human life has been stripped of its sanctity, and decency is outdated.  We’re told to be “tolerant” of any lifestyle, even if it’s immoral or detrimental for society.  Pray for your heart to be pure before God.

Blue has been used to great leaders and kings because it stands for honor.  Many of our nation’s problems stem from failing to show honor where honor is due.  Children fail to honor their parents.  Leaders and role models sometimes bring dishonor on themselves.  People of all walks of life decline to treat others with dignity, and we end up with problems like racism and ethnic cleansing.  Most disturbing, people fail to honor God.   Pray that your life and words will honor God.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who sacrificed their lives for our nation.  Like Jesus, they gave up their lives for others.  Jesus embodied courage, purity, and honor.  He  courageously faced the cross for us.  He lived a pure life.  He honored his Heavenly Father and other people.  Do you and I show courage, purity, and honor in our daily lives?  This is a good time to look up to those who show courage, purity, and honor.

So the next time you see the flag and hold your hand over your heart, remember the One who showed courage, purity, and honor.  Give thanks to Him.  Worship and serve Him.   Exalt Him as the Lord of the universe.  Remember red represents courage.  White stands for purity.  Blue represents honor.  Strive to live in a way that shows courage, purity, and honor in your life.  A true patriot shows courage, purity, and honor.  As we approach this Memorial Day, let us strive to be true patriots as we honor those who gave up their lives for our freedom.

  Wishing you peace and hope,

Pastor Randy
